INDUSTRY EXPERTS SELECT CEDAR POINT'S SAFARI C³ ™ AS FINALIST IN "READERS' CHOICE" COMPETITION

DERRY, NH (May 20, 2002) - Cedar Point Communications, a leader in packet-based voice switching development for the cable industry, announced today that its SAFARI C³™ Media Switching System has been selected as a finalist in the 2002 Readers Choice Awards competition conducted by Communications Technology magazine.

A panel of cable technology experts named SAFARI C³, the first totally integrated Carrier Class Cable (C³) telephony solution designed exclusively for cable system operators, one of the industry's five "Best New Headend Products." SCTE members attending the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo June 4-7 in San Antonio will select the winning product in the Headend category.

SAFARI C³ will be demonstrated at the Cedar Point Communications booth, #7004/7006, at the Cable-Tec Expo.

"Being selected as a Readers Choice finalist is a tremendous achievement," said Tim Hermes, publisher of Communications Technology. "It means that some of the sharpest technical minds in the business see real value and potential in the nominated product in the areas of reliability, efficiency, capacity, speed and technical performance."

"Our focus for nearly two years has been the development from the ground up of a cable-specific telephony solution," said Mark Galvin, founder and chairman of Cedar Point Communications. "We are extremely pleased that Communications Technology's panel of experts - a cross-section of our target market - has grasped the value of SAFARI C³ for cable system operators."

SAFARI C³, the only commercially-viable carrier-class solution for the entire cable industry, uses a unique set of PacketClass™ technologies to combine key high quality attributes of today's Class 5 voice switches with the elements in distributed VoIP networks in a single CableLabs' PacketCable™ based chassis. SAFARI C³ provides superior performance and reliability, significantly reducing capital expenditures, system integration and operations costs for cable operators offering telephony services.

The new technology entered initial trial with Comcast Corporation in November, 2001, and will begin field trials this summer in MetroCast Cablevision systems serving 90,000 homes in Belmont and Rochester, NH and Sanford, ME.
